Day 1: New York - Washington D.C Trip: Washington, Washington cherry blossoms, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Tidal lake, Potomac River Departing from New York in the morning, we are heading to our nation’s Capital, Washington D.C. for cherry blossom sightseeing. We will visit the Jefferson Memorial. The 96-foot memorial is noted for its circular marble steps, portico, a circular colonnade of Ionic order columns and a shallow dome, which is an obvious nod to the Pantheon of Rome. It also mirrors the University of Virginia rotunda, a structure designed by Jefferson himself. Inside the grand memorial stands a 19-foot statue of Thomas Jefferson and excerpts he authored can be found on the interior wall: "I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." The memorial is located by the Tidal Basin, from where you will have a stunning view of the Cherry Blossom blooming along the shore during the time. Donated by Japan as a gift of friendship and peace, the Cherry Blossom trees in DC have graced the Tidal Basin and Potomac Waterfront over 100 years. Later you will have a chance to take the D.C. Cherry Blossom Cruise for sightseeing along the Potomac River. With a backdrop of full blooming cherry trees on the banks of the Potomac River, you can also see most iconic landmarks in the area: the Pentagon, Washington memorial, Air Force Memorial and so on.
